Theo of Golden Walking Book Club Tour
We are fascinated and delighted by Allen Levi's book "Theo of Golden", as much as Oprah or anyone for that matter. Dragonfly Toys & Gifts is honored to be on the same block as Fountain City Coffee and to view Garry Pound's portraits almost daily getting our coffee and sometimes sweets, of course.
I'm Sude Dellinger, owner of Dragonfly Toys & Gifts @ The 706 Social, and I have been walking Broadway day in, day out for over 7 years now. Broadway and the Riverwalk are a passion for me. There's a reason I have a journalism degree, as I love exploring what surrounds me.
And as your tour director, I would love to share personal insights and references to the people and places we've fallen in love with over the course of reading Allen Levi's treasured book. I have talked to many people and with research under my belt I can't wait to have meaningful moments with you taking in the place that Theo called home for a year.
Let's go on a journey! Meet at The 706 Social a little early for your tour - there are over 100 vendors with food, clothing, books, plants, and much more. Grab a coffee at Gnome Home or a slushy wine upstairs (we'll have water for you as well). Saunter over to Dragonfly Toys & Gifts - at the back of the first floor near the playroom - and we'll all head out the door.
The tour will be approximately 30-45 minutes depending on how fast we walk. We will end back at The 706 Social. Afterwards, it would be great to meet up at The Goetchius House at 405 Broadway, an antebellum landmark and beloved bar & restaurant built in 1839. Let's enjoy drinks and discuss the book.
Classic Card Games Re-Imagined
Who wants to play "Old Maid" when you can play "Old Meow"? "Go Fish" when you really mean "Go Shark"! We've got loads of games to keep the fun going, including Dog Bingo and well, just Charades (but the kids' version).
We're looking forward to laughs every Tuesday from 3-4pm - although it's free we'd love for you to RSVP so we can know how many Oreos to buy...
Painted Rock Class
Did you know there is a history of painting rocks in Columbus, GA? Long before paint pens and acrylics hit local craft tables, the concept of "painted rocks" was woven into the region's geography. The name Chattahoochee derives from the Muskogee (Creek) words meaning "painted rock".
More recently, local artist and organizer Rachel "Smiley" White launched Columbus GA Rocks in January 2017. She kicked off the project by hiding 50 hand-painted rocks across downtown Columbus.
Every Thursday from 3-4pm we'll paint rocks, a few for ourselves and a few for other people to find. The idea is to inspire and relate with a simple concept. Maybe someone finding a painted flower on a rock during a walk will mean your child has brightened someone's day. And there is such fun in hiding a rock meant to be found. While free, please RSVP so we know how many supplies to have on hand.
