Painted Rocks Craft

Did you know there is a history of painting rocks in Columbus, GA? Long before paint pens and acrylics hit local craft tables, the concept of "painted rocks" was woven into the region's geography. The name Chattahoochee derives from the Muskogee (Creek) words meaning "painted rock". 

More recently, local artist and organizer Rachel "Smiley" White launched Columbus GA Rocks in January 2017. She kicked off the project by hiding 50 hand-painted rocks across downtown Columbus.

We'll paint rocks, a few for ourselves and a few for other people to find. The idea is to inspire and relate with a simple concept. Maybe someone finding a painted flower on a rock during a walk will mean your child has brightened someone's day. And there is such fun in hiding a rock meant to be found.
